Climbing Upwards is an 8 min colour documentary film about a group of young people who face various challenges in life and that take part in a free rock climbing program. Led by the British charity Urban Uprising, the program provides weekly sessions with climbing instructors at the Edinburgh gym, Alien Rock. Children play games and learn the fundamentals of knots, ropes, and belaying, while feeling welcomed and respected. As the they take their first steps in the sport, climbing becomes a metaphor of overcoming hardships and taking failure as a positive part of life.
