Exploring the impact of graphic design in film
Beauty in the Detail is a short film exploring the ideas of how graphic design can effectively be used as the narrative of film and be brought to the forefront to help aid the story-telling process and not just used to fill space in the background.

In the beginning of the short film the character is struggling to think of new ideas for his work and the constant thoughts of frustration are displayed on the posters.

The posters continue to be displayed in the world around the character showing he is at breaking point and needs to have a break to gather his frantic thoughts.

As the character departs from his workspace, he passes a poster depicting himself in the dark and needs to find a solution. Once this turning point is reached and he finds the inspiration that was all around him the last poster has changed to depict him ‘seeing the light’ and that his mood and outlook has flipped.

A book of stills from the short film ‘Beauty in the Detail’ was designed to physically show the journey of the protagonist and display each moment a piece of graphic design was used as the narrative of the film.

The stills book also include breakdowns of each poster and photography and the messages that are being told on each one.
